In Ana Hofmann’s work “Black Ink on White Paper” the interaction of sound and black ink is examined. Through the impact of the changing beat and rhythm of the music, the surface of the black liquid starts to twitch and form shortly visible patterns. The soundtrack composed by the artist performs a painterly action while the ink reacts to its vibrations and changes its shape. The pair of them, ink and sound, form a mesmerizing moving image. Ana Hofmann is interested in these forms of communication between organic, artificial and digital matter that lead to fascinating aesthetic configurations.

Ana Hofmann (b. 1987) lives and works in Zurich. She exhibited at Kunsthalle Zürich, Helmhaus, Art Basel Hong Kong. 2017 she won a Grant from City of Zurich for a half year Residency in New York, where she stays in 2019. She is currently teaching at the School of Art and Design in Zurich (F&F). For her project "STRIPES IN THE HOOD" she got a support from the Erna and Curt Burgauer Foundation. Ana Hofmann holds a BA (2017) in Art & Media, from Zurich Art University (ZHdK) and a BA (2012) in Sociology, Politics and Film Science from Zurich University.
